This tour to some of the most interesting spots in Iceland focuses on the contrasts of the area. We start at the Akureyri Bus Terminal on a guided tour to the Lake Mývatn area. On our way we stop at the Goðafoss waterfall which is not only a beautiful waterfall, but has also played an important role in the history of the country. From this scenic waterfall the road takes us to Skútustaðir. Intriguing pseudo-craters abound in this area. Towards noon we arrive in Reykjahlíð village. Here we leave the excursion bus and step into the Krafla - Dettifoss bus in front of Hotel Reynihlíð. The bus takes us through Bjarnarflag thermal area, across Námafjall, with its lunar-like landscape, past Hverarönd and its boiling sulphur sources up to Víti, (Inferno) a big explosion crater. Here we stop for a few minutes.
From there we drive on to Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall, through one of Iceland´s largest lava terrains and arrive there at about 13:00. At 14:00 the bus departs from the waterfall.

The Hljóðaklettar (Echocliffs), are world known for the basaltic columns that characterise the ancient crater remains. You can stroll among the fabulous cliffs for an hour before entering the Ásbyrgi (Fortress of the Gods), formed as a horse footprint, with the arctic vegetation at its best. On the way back to Akureyri, we have a short stop Húsavík, a beautiful fishing village, world renowned for whalewatching.

Please note that this tour is only partly guided, i.e. the part Akureyri - Reykjahlíð is guided, the rest is not.
